Concrete that looks worn out is not always worn out. If the slab is structurally sound, sitting on a stable base, and free of moving cracks, a resurfacing overlay can give it a new wearing surface at a fraction of replacement cost, with no demolition and no week-long cure.

We assess first, and that assessment has a real chance of ending in a recommendation not to resurface. We sound the slab for hollow areas, check crack widths for movement, look at the joints and examine the base condition. Structural failure, settlement and active cracking all rule out an overlay, and finding that out before the material is on the ground saves you the whole cost.

Where the slab is sound, preparation is the job. The surface is cleaned and profiled by shot blasting or diamond grinding, existing spalls and pop-outs are repaired, and cracks are routed out and filled with a flexible material. Any crack likely to keep moving is honored through the overlay with a matching joint rather than covered, because a crack that is covered simply reappears in the new surface within a season.

Then the overlay goes down over a bonding agent: a thin micro-topping where only appearance is being corrected, a heavier polymer-modified topping where there is real surface loss to make up, or a stamped and textured overlay where the goal is a decorative finish. Colors and patterns are matched to the property, joints are re-cut to align with the original slab, and the finished surface is sealed once cured.
